Members of a jury found Craig Nakaahiki, 40, of Lihu’e, guilty of unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle, assault in the third degree, and criminal property damage in the fourth degree, after a two-day trial at Fifth Circuit Court in Lihu’e earlier this week, county prosecutors said.
Members of the jury returned their verdict after deliberating for approximately one hour. County Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Jennifer Winn presented evidence that showed that, on July 14, 2004, Nakaahiki confronted the victim at a residence near the Koloa Neighborhood Center, she said.
Nakaahiki demanded that the victim get out of a vehicle, and when the victim refused, Nakaahiki struck the front driver side window until the window shattered, Winn said in court.
Nakaahiki then struck the victim on his right hand, and in the face, causing a cut on his right hand and bruising and swelling to his left eye, Winn said.
Judge Kathleen Watanabe, who presided over the trial, scheduled Nakaahiki’s sentencing for March 9.
Nakaahiki faces several years in prison for the combined charges, Winn said.
