HANAMA’ULU — A Kauai Commercial Company truck carrying a load of drywall tipped over on its side at the intersection of Kapule and Kuhio highways shortly after noon on Wednesday.
The driver of the truck was not injured, said a state Department of Transportation Highways Division official, who was at the scene of the accident.
The truck was headed northbound on Kuhio Highway, after making a turn coming out of Hanama’ulu on Kuhio Highway, through the intersection, when the shipment of drywall may have shifted, and fell off the truck and onto the highway.
The truck was brought to an upright position by a tow truck, and was taken away, authorities said.
The accident significantly slowed northbound and southbound traffic between Hanama’ulu and Wailua.
More than six Kaua’i Police Department officers were at the scene directing traffic as an operator of a Kauai Commercial Company forklift moved the fallen shipment to the side of the road, to be picked up later.
