Bernard Morris Sr.
Bernard “Benny” Morris Sr. of Manteca, Calif., died Nov. 27, 2005, at the age of 82.
Born July 18, 1923, in Lihu’e, Kaua’i, he was a machinist for Trailmobile in Fremont, Calif., for 28 years. He lived in Manteca for the last 11 years. He was also a U.S. Air Force corporal from 1943 to 1945, during World War II.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Morris of Manteca, Calif.; children: David (Donna) Morris of Hayward, Calif.; Bernadette (Jerry) Stidman of Hayward, Calif.; Bernard (Nancy) Morris Jr. of Manteca, Calif.; Michael (Donna) Morris of Clamith Falls, Ore.; Melinda Morris of Manteca, Calif.; Matthew (Monica) Morris of Fremont, Calif.; 19 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; siblings: Serafine Morris II of Tennessee, Emily Colbenson of Las Vegas, Margaret Buckles of Michigan, Elsie Stalman of Concord, Calif. He is preceded in death by sister Peggy Elices.
Memorial Mass was held on Dec. 12, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Fremont, Calif. Donations may be sent to the Disabled American Veterans in his memory.
Mildred Asuncion
Mildred Asuncion of Lihu’e died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Dec. 13, 2005, at the age of 72. A sales clerk, she was born in Lihu’e on Aug. 23, 1933.
She is survived by eight children: Terry (Francine) Asuncion, Lee Ann (Randal) Watanabe, Harold (Doreen) Asuncion, Roland Asuncion, Darryl Asuncion, Priscilla Asuncion, Christopher (Elani) Asuncion, and Carolyn Asuncion; two brothers: Julian (Gloria) Ibia and Raymond (Eleanor) Ibia; one sister, Irene (Bobby) Patigayon; 20 grandchildren, and eight great-grand-children.
Friends may call on Thursday, Dec. 22, with viewing time from 9 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., and service at 11 a.m., at Borthwick Kauai Mortuary chapel in Koloa. Inurnment will take place on a later date, to be a private, family function.
The family requests casual attire be worn by those attending the services.
Arrangements are being handled by professionals at Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
John Bandmann Sr.
John Wallis “Ka’a’a” Bandmann Sr., of Lawa’i, died Dec. 13, 2005, at the age of 63. He was born in Lihu’e on June 17, 1942.
A master sergeant retired from the Hawaii Air National Guard after 26 years of service, he was also retired from Kauai Electric (now Kaua’i Island Utility Cooperative), where he was transmission and distribution baseyard supervisor.
He was also an avid and active member of Hui O Laka, the volunteer supporters of the Koke’e Natural History Museum in Koke’e State Park, of Hale O Na Ali’i, and Lihue Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife, Edith Leimomi Po’ai “Edee” Bandmann; three sons: John Wallis (Nani) Bandmann; Zahn Kawika Bandmann; and Keli’i Chris (fiancee Maila Gibson) Bandmann; two daughters: Kristine (Darrell) Borrero and Keu’ionalani Zahan; four grandchildren: Darrell Borrero Jr., Wailana Borrero, Kawika Bandmann and Taylor Bandmann; sisters in-law, Lalauna Bandmann, of Utah, and Valerie Po’ai of Kapa’a; brothers in-law, Mitchell Alapa, Kenwood Alapa and David Kaneali’i; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at the Kauai Veterans Center on Kapule Highway in Lihu’e, Wednesday, Dec. 21, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with service to follow. Lei of aloha will be welcomed by family members in lieu of flowers or wreaths.
