Olaf Elia Thronas
Olaf Elia Thronas passed away surrounded by his family on Nov. 27, 2005 at the age of 79.
Born in Papa’a, Kaua’i on April 4, 1926, he was a lifelong rancher. He was a mechanic, car salesman, started his own business in heavy equipment rental and repairs, reforestation and cesspool digging. His largest achievement was his incorporation of trucking, ready-mix concrete manufacturer and material supplier. As president and owner of O. Thronas, Inc., he secured his concrete business and became the owner of Kauai Aggregates, a rock quarry and crusher operation. He was an independent businessman for over 50 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Olaf Thorkil and Irene Maka Thronas; brothers Stanley, Fred, and Samuel Thronas, James Kaneakua, and sister, Agnes Thronas.
He is survived by three children, Stanley (Ginger) Thronas, Ku’ulei Thronas (Larry Loganbill) and Nalani (Andrew) Finn, five grand-children, James Kahea Thronas, Taylor Kapono Thronas, Anna Ku’uleimakamae Thronas Loganbill, Zoe Kamalei Finn and Andrew Eli Finn. Also survived by a brother, Henry (Renee) Thronas of Wailua and two sisters, Irene Strong and Betty La Coe, both of California; two sisters-in-law; Mary Thronas and Betty Jean Thronas of Wailua as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family on Friday, Dec. 9, at Borthwick Kauai Mortuary in Koloa 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Service to follow at 11:30. Private burial. Aloha attire is suggested
Kimie Maeda
Kimie Maeda of Kekaha, died at Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital on Dec. 3, 2005, at the age of 74. Born in Camp One, Kaumakani, on Sept. 19, 1931, she was a room attendant with Sheraton Kauai Resort.
She is survived by her husband, Haruji Maeda of Kekaha, three sons, Wayne (Schar) Maeda of Kaumakani, Owen Maeda of Kekaha and Bert Maeda of Honolulu; three grandchildren, Joshua (Kanani), Levi and Nadine (James); three great-grandchildren, Jacob, Raidon and Avery; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may visit with the family from 1-2 p.m. on Sat., Dec. 10, 2005 at the Garden Island Mortuary chapel; service officiated by Rev. Abeshima will begin at 2 p.m. Casual attire is suggested and flowers omitted.

Judith Rose Kessler of ‘Oma’o died Dec. 2, 2005, at Desert Regional Medical Ceneter, Palm Springs.
Born Nov. 2, 1938, in New York City, she is survived by her husband: Alan Kessler; daughter: Deborah (Matt) Parker; two sons: Steven (Rae Ann) Kessler and Jonathan (David Lane) Kessler; five grand-children: Elijah, Sophie, Matt, Ben and Peter.
Graveside services will be held at Kalapaki Bay Memorial Park Cemetery on Friday, Dec. 9.

Tsunemi Nakata
Tsunemi Nakata of Hanapepe died at Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital on Dec. 1, 2005, at the age of 82.
Born in Hanapepe, on March 17, 1923, he was a retired painter with Nakagawa Painting.
He is survived by his wife, Masako; three sons, Keith Nakata of Hanapepe, Russell (Joy) Nakata of ‘Ele’ele and Lance (Dolly) Nakata of Lihu’e; two daughters, Susanne Shimatsu of Boise, Idaho and Darlene Sugimoto of Pearl City, O’ahu; nine grandchildren; three great-grand-children; four sisters, Yoshiko (Albert) Gokan, of Mililani, O’ahu, Ethel (James) Okada of Waimea, Mildred Shirai of ‘Ele’ele and Eleanor (Wilfred) Takanishi of California; sisters-in-law, Asako Nakata of ‘Ele’ele and Kazue Nakata of Hanapepe.
Funeral service officiated by Rev. Hashimoto has been scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10, at the Hanapepe Hongwanji. Casual attire is suggested and flowers omitted.

Shirlet Apana-Miike
Shirlet Pualani Apana-Miike of Kapa’a died Dec. 1, 2005, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 62.
Born Feb. 1, 1943, she was a musician and entertainer.
She is survived by two daughters: Christine “Mele” Apana and Christy (Leland) Keale, Sr.; four sisters and one brother; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family from 10 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. at on Saturday, Dec. 10, at Kapa’a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where services will be celebrated at 11 a.m., cremation to follow. Casual and aloha attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
