HANAPEPE — After jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the first half, the Waimea boys soccer squad answered the challenge in a 3-3 tie with Kapa’a, yesterday at Hanapepe Stadium.
Chance Bukoski, Micah Ohlen, and Rayom Ribeiro scored the Warrior goals. Meanwhile, Scott Martin netted two goals and Chad Thompson added a goal for the Menehune.
The Warriors are still four points ahead of the Menehune, with Kaua’i seven points behind in the boys’ standings.
The Kapa’a girls needed a second half surge, after a 0-0 halftime tie to defeat the Menehune, 4-0.
Ka’ala Leong (2), Jantill Leota, and Erin Pickett accounted for the scoring.
The Warriors moved six points ahead of the Red Raiders in the girls’ standings.
In JV action, the Kapa’a boys slammed Waimea, 9-1, thanks to a hat trick by Tyler Tangelder, two goals each from Caleb Sarsona and Ian Lactaotao, and single goals by Austin Haigh and Joseph Velasco. Mana Shigematsu netted Waimea’s lone score. The girls’ JV match ended in a 1-1 tie, with Kiare Alejandro (Waimea) and Sonja Tupou (Kapa’a) scoring the goals.
KIF soccer continues on Wednesday, with Kaua’i battling Waimea in varsity-only action at Hanapepe Stadium, starting at 5 p.m.
