The Sisters of St. Francis and members of their Franciscan Associates are celebrating the first official feast day of Blessed Mother Marianne Cope tomorrow at 7 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church in Lihu‘e.
Members of the Franciscan Associates will serve breakfast after the liturgy, in the parish meeting room, they said in a press release.
Blessed Mother Marianne was beatified last year at St. Peter Basilica in Rome, and some of the Kaua‘i Franciscan Associates, including Gayle Bakiano of Hanama‘ulu, enjoyed an audience with Pope Benedict XVI.
Bakiano presented a lei to the pope from the Franciscan Associates of Kaua‘i.
Bakiano received a special blessing from the pope, as did her escort, Jerry Omakanim, cousin of Sister Florence Remata, O.S.F., who was the spiritual guide for the group from Kaua‘i.
Bishop Larry Silva, bishop of the Diocese of Honolulu, will celebrate the official feast day of Blessed Mother Marianne Cope tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Peace Cathedral in Honolulu.
The Sisters of St. Francis serve in Kalaupapa, Moloka‘i; St. Francis Healthcare Systems in Honolulu; St. Francis School in Manoa on O‘ahu; Our Lady of Perpetual Help School in Ewa Beach, O‘ahu; St. Michael School in Waialua, O‘ahu; Our Lady of Kea‘au on the Big Island; Pearl City Nursing Home on O‘ahu; St. Joseph School in Hilo on the Big Island; and at Immaculate Conception parish in Lihu‘e.
