Players like Rachel Kyono, Miki Ueoka, Mike Garcia, Ki’ilani Matsuyoshi, Chad Nonaka, Jaime Matsumura, Casey and Kellen Watabu, Jennie Pleas, and Jordan Cox are just a few of the individuals who have gone through or are still competing in the famed Kaua’i Jr. Golf program.
KJGA is now accepting applications for a new group of golfers, with beginner to advanced players between the ages of 7-18.
The program has been in existence for around 30 years and seems to grow with popularity every season.
“Anything to get the kids off the streets. That’s our basic motto. Golf is great for all sorts of kids. It gives them self-confidence and allows them to handle defeat well,” Hawai’i and Kaua’i Jr. Golf Association president Mary Bea Porter-King said.
KJGA membership includes USGA membership (first-year players only), HSJGA (State) membership, KJGA shirt, six group lessons, two rules of golf clinics (mandatory), and skills testing (new players only).
“We’d love to get more girls to come out. Opportunities for girls to get college scholarships for golf are much better when compared to boys’ opportunities,” Porter-King said.
Registration forms are available at www.kjga.org, all public and private schools, Kaua’i golf courses, King Auto Center, and KIUC.

“Bring a friend and just come out and have fun, because ultimately that’s what it’s all about,” Porter-King noted.
