Annette Hashimoto was back in the food booth at the Kapa‘a High School KIF basketball game at Bernice Hundley Gym, and even Steven Carvalho got fooled because he was going to order chili and rice. Guess what? He said it was on the menu. Jeff Venzon was helping to referee the junior-varsity game, and in the varsity game, Lenny Rapozo went from his coach’s hat to the ref’s hat, and if Peter Rayno was there, I guess the Wal-Mart club was less busy. You have to attend the meetings when Marina Octavio’s mom comes, because she always has goodies to share.
Hats off to Billy Gibson, Martina Hilldorf, Mark Oyama and all those Kaua‘i Community College culinary people. Tuesday was opening day for the spring fine-dining experience, and the place was packed! For this time, guess what? You can patronize a non-alcoholic bar, as well as get the menu from both the fine dining and cafeteria on the KCC Web site. Next door at the cafeteria, it was nice to chat with Dennis Chun, Marshall Mock and Earl Nishiguchi during their lunch break. Speaking of food, check out Carla Dusenberry, who is one of the short-order cooks at Tutu’s Cafe in Kalaheo (say hello to Scotty Shapiro next door at Scotty’s Music while you’re at it). Carla was in California, and the Camper was on the Ninth Island during this year’s mochi-pounding festivities, but wait until next New Year’s. Congratulations to Kenny Estes, who is aiming to become a University of Hawai‘i Warrior football player! Kenny keeps the Kaua‘i connection going now that Ikaika Curnan finished up his senior season! Now, is Marissa Bonilla still doing the ball-girl thingie?
