Where will you be on Feb. 5? Dean Nakayama is getting excited about the trip he won to the Ninth Island (Las Vegas) and is already trying to figure out where he is going to watch the battle between Seattle and Pittsburgh.
But, that’s a ways down the road, and in the meantime, what a great pair of Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation soccer games Wednesday night! Hats off to coaches from all three high schools for being able to glean the best of all of their players, and making it such an exciting season! “Coach” Bobby Ayonon (his son Colby Ayonon is on the Kapa‘a girls’ staff) said, “This is it for me! I can’t take this anymore.” We’ll see. Anthony Tangelder, his son Tyler Tangelder doing the scoring honors for Kapa‘a, came over to chat with coach Dan Agan, and one parent noted how Waimea coach Mark Kennett “just wants to keep things interesting.” Coach Dave Walker was there, and even had time to remind people about their Burns Supper tonight in Waimea.
Coach Paul Barba and coach Brandon Moises were comparing notes about Waimea’s boys’ basketball performance Tuesday night, and even the athletic directors of both schools were on hand, chatting with Bill Arakaki. And, if Bill is there, so is coach Blanche Arakaki, and Mark Brandeberg, and a whole bunch of Kaua‘i soccer players. But, the best part was seeing coach Chad Delanoza and getting some of that hot dog and saimin (the secret is in the soup)! Okay, ‘nuff said…it’s time to head back to the soccer fields.
