Officials with the Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement (CNHA) has been contracted by leaders of the Native Hawaiian Hospitality Association to conduct community meetings on Tuesday from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Waimea Neighborhood Center, and Thursday from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Anahola Hawaiian Homestead Tech Center, on the impacts of tourism on Native Hawaiians, a CNHA spokesperson said in a press release.
Officials with the Native Hawaiian Hospitality Association, with funding support from trustees in the state Office of Hawaiian Affairs, will conduct the Kaua‘i meetings as a series of 17 community meetings statewide, to gain input regarding the impact of tourism on the Native Hawaiian community.
These meetings are open to members of the public, and will provide attendees the opportunity to share their concerns and propose solutions.
Ideas and suggestions from members of the public will better inform Native Hawaiian Hospitality Association leaders and participants at the association’s ‘Aha Kuka Conference, Empowering Native Hawaiians to Shape the Future of Tourism, to then develop key strategies for moving forward.
The conference will be held from May 2 through May 4 at the Ihilani Resort and Spa at Ko Olina on O‘ahu.
