Deadline set for Navy scholarships
Officials with the Navy League of the United States Kauai Council in a press release wanted to remind high-school seniors that the deadline for entries for their annual scholarship competition is Feb. 21.
The theme is “What Makes a Marine a Marine?”
Call Sandra Gage, scholarship chairman, 332-8390, for more information.
Mayor schedules regional meetings
Officials in the administration of Mayor Bryan J. Baptiste will be holding regional meetings tomorrow at 7 p.m. at the Hanapepe Hawaii Army National Guard armory, for those living in Lawa‘i, Kalaheo, ‘Ele‘ele, Hanapepe, Kaumakani, Makaweli, Waimea, Kekaha and Mana, and at the Kilauea Neighborhood Center, for those residing from Kilauea to Ha‘ena.
County department heads will be present to discuss concerns relative to the respective regional areas, and island-wide issues, according to a press release. Additionally, there will be time for residents to ask questions.
“It has always been about doing our best for and in partnership with the communities to improve the quality of life for our residents, and I look forward to the regional meetings,” said Baptiste.
For more information on the meetings, contact Theresa Koki in the county Office of Community Response, 241-6246.
Corrections
• There were a few inaccuracies in the Business-page story Sunday (page C7) about The Terrace Restaurant at Kauai Lagoons closing down.
The owner and operator’s correct name is John Borales. The closing date is March 31, not the end of this month, because that’s when group-movement contracts end for the restaurant, Borales said.
Also, Borales is accommodating the new owners of Kauai Lagoons, who plan to use a section of the restaurant for a sales office. The building where The Terrace Restaurant is located is slated to be torn down in the next two years, when a new clubhouse and golf-cart-storage facility is built closer to the golf course driving range.
The snack center at the golf starters’ area will be redone, and Borales does business there. He is negotiating with owners of Kauai Lagoons for a new lease at the new golf clubhouse, continues to operate two beverage carts on the golf course, and is doing all he can to find work for his Terrace employees.
He also owns and operates Wahoo’s Seafood Grill & Bar in Waipouli.
