Lea Scovel is trying to figure out how to get through this weekend’s busy schedule of soccer, baseball, and celebrations.
Lea was at the opening of the Teen Edge center in Kalaheo before having to drop off one of her daughters at soccer practice. Congratulations to Bernard Carvalho (he didn’t make the Kaua‘i/Punahou II game, but his daughter Brittney did), Clyde Vito, Shana Oyama, and all the many people who made the whole thing come together. Sam Arashiro even made it to the basketball game in time to watch daughter Cory play.
Janine Rapozo and Kaleo Carvalho of The Kaua‘i Bus were both on hand as was Roy Nishida, and thanks to Teresa Koki, the Camper learned the story of the Reckless Breakers dance group and the benevolence of Koloa Neighborhood Center’s Susan Cox (she plays a pretty mean game of ping pong).
Mahalo, too, to DJ the Clown for the pizza and hot dog (it hit the spot while stuck in traffic leading up to the Halfway Bridge).
Of course, all the Westside neighborhood center directors were there as was Aaron Uyeda who will be busy with Red Raider baseball Saturday.
Hats off to June Akuna and all the Waimea High School staff on a great Career Day … especially to Karyn Poulton and her Culinary Arts Academy students who had to prepare lunch for all the guests and the 58 vendors.
Gini Kapali of TSA is wrapping up her Career Day calendar with one more appearance, but for some it’s off to Kalaheo School on Mar. 1.
OK, it’s off to see what Valerie Saiki (she was at the Waimea Career Day) is doing with her International Day of Action for Smoke-free movies.
