The contest went into an extra session, but after no scores from both squads, it came down to penalty kicks in a first round game of the HHSAA/Meadow Gold Dairies Boys State Soccer Championships.
The Cougars capitalized on four of their kicks, but the Menehune could only punch in one of three at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Park and Stadium, yesterday.
Waimea now moves down to the consolation bracket to face Leilehua today at 1 p.m.
Kaiser’s Kyle Niiro tallied the first goal of the contest at the 25th minute, but Waimea’s Chad Thompson answered a couple minutes later to tie the score up at 1-1.
After both teams were unable to score a goal in both the remainder of regulation and an overtime period, the game was forced to go into a penalty kicks session.
Kollin Morikawa nailed in his kick, but Thompson and Nathan Martin failed to convert their scores.
Michael Kawajiri, John Moats, Matthew Bush, and Niiro punched in their scores for the first round win.
