Roy Nishida was not alone as he looked for an open refuse transfer station on Sunday. They were all closed, according to information being broadcast by Ron Wiley. Roy was at the speed and quickness clinic at Kaua‘i High School with Bev Pang, who was telling me about all those flooded pastures and roads in Wailua. But, her doggie survived the thunder and didn’t run away from home. Hats off to coach Rich Miano, who found out that 8:30 on Sunday is early! Rich says he leaves home at 5:30 every day so they can be ready for practice that starts at 7 a.m. Mel DeLaura was busy working with the keiki who had their parents all lined up on the floor at the Kaua‘i High School gym, and what a treat to see Chad Owens working well with the keiki. In reality, all the athletes, Kenny Patton, Grace Mullins, Leonard Peters, Krisha Kai and Ryan Grice Mullin, did a great job with the students. And kudos to coach Mike Tresler, who didn’t mind being the go-fer to Starbucks and Jamba so the athletes could get their energy without missing a beat.
Hats off, too, to Mark Ozaki, Beth Tokioka, Crystal Kaya (mahalo for the reminder phone call) and all the K-PAL (Kauai Police Athletic League) and LBL (Lihue Baseball League) people for a successful Pitch, Hit, & Run competition Saturday! Some of the LBL coaches even made it to Sunday’s speed and quickness clinic.
Mark said they’ll take a week off before K-PAL wrestling resumes, with wrestlers from all three districts competing in one night. If you haven’t checked it out, you’re missing some great stuff.
OK, ‘nuff said. Today starts the volleyball speed and quickness clinics. Keali‘i Aguiar said all you gotta do is show up at either Waimea, Kaua‘i, or Kapa‘a high schools.
