An opening round loss in the Hawaiian Airlines/HHSAA Division II State Girls Basketball Championships motivated the Kapa‘a girls to win two straight for the consolation title (7th place). Yesterday, the Warriors defeated Hawai‘i Baptist, 53-32, behind 13 points from Poe Gantt. Brittney Carvalho chipped in with 10 points.
Kennilyn Nakamura (nine points) and Michelle Toy (six points) rounded out the Warrior scoring. The 2006 KIF champions finished up at 9-3 on the season and 2-1 in HHSAA play.
Kapa‘a went on a 23-11 fourth quarter, which sealed the victory.
Agor lifts Waimea with game-winning RBI
Waimea’s Max Agor belted a game-winning RBI to leftfield, scoring Keith Nonaka for the 2-1 win over Moanalua yesterday in consolation action of the Wally Yonamine/HHSAA State Baseball Tournament on Maui.
Brad Frasco picked up the win, allowing just three hits.
The Menehune move into the consolation championship game (7th place) today at 12 noon against Kailua.
