Art Umezu (he had his Chinese bento take-out in hand) was wondering how come Dean and Lei Nakayama have been missing. But that’s because they were busy coming up with the Kaua‘i Bakery baked manju with choice of black bean or apple … now, do we do the macaroons, or the manju?
We are still in the recovery stage from the weekend, but mahalo to Kori Masuda for the great job making sure the scores for the ZZ Youth Basketball League get sent in … commissioner Jeff Venzon said they got some help from Roy Nishida’s anti-drug office to put on their upcoming Second Annual Kaua‘i Open Invitational basketball tournament for 12 and 14 under boys. Jeff said it runs June 15 to 17 and it’s a good chance for people to see some free basketball.
Helping coach both Kaulupono teams, Kori Sakamoto is anxious to see who from the University of Hawai‘i is coming down for the basketball Speed and Quickness clinics starting this morning.
Meanwhile, coaches Dennis Aquino and Clyde Vito were tasked with officiating four (!) games in Kalaheo Tuesday. The good thing about games on Tuesday is being able to hear Glenna Ueunten’s Ryukyukoku Matsuri Daiko practice.
And the Farmers’ Market vendors were still on hand … Matilda Adams had some ono-looking Hayden mango, and Irenia Edrada’s Waimea-grown ginger was looking real juicy too … she even had some chop suey potato.
Congratulations to both Waimea and Kaua‘i high school seniors who celebrated their graduation last night. Best wishes for a most successful future, and above all, stay safe.
