The Coast Guard airlifted an injured crewmember from the deck of a 95-foot fishing vessel 75 miles north of Kauai early yesterday.
The captain of the “Sea Falcon” reported to the Coast Guard at 5 p.m. Thursday that a 56-year-old male crewmember aboard his vessel was complaining of chest pain.
The Sea Falcon at the time was 200 miles northwest of Kauai.
The captain changed course to come within range of a Coast Guard HH-65 Dolphin helicopter and a rendezvous occurred just before 8 a.m. yesterday.
The injured crewmember was hoisted into the hovering helicopter while a Coast Guard C-130 plane flew overhead to monitor the rescue.
Both aircraft were launched from Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point on Oahu.
The injured crewmember was flown to Lihue International Airport and transferred to Kauai County Emergency Medical Services and taken to Wilcox Memorial Hospital.
