Ryan Chadwick was able to be a “junior” aboard the Papa‘au as the Nawiliwili Yacht Club continued their Junior Series races.
Ryan’s parents Bruce and Norlene (they were checking out the black rock crabs) were enjoying the races from the jetty seawall with Sharon Gibson and Marty Ellis (Maile the Yacht Dog has a new frisbee thingie, too) … last Laser race is Monday at 5:30 and the last Junior Series is Thursday at 5 p.m. Bruce said they’re from Great Falls, Va, where there is actually a waterfall on the Potomac River.
Congratulations to Ed Kawamura on being the new commander for the Kaua‘i Veterans Council … he’s already looking ahead to the July 4 Roundup and all the food. Was also nice to chat with Judge Trudy Senda (if her dad was a 100th Btn vet, doesn’t that qualify her as a “Sons and Daughters?”) and the pupus were perfect for the ride out to Kapa‘a for basketball.
Over at the Babe Ruth baseball games, it was overflowing with flavor as the Lihu‘e Pony All-Stars had their parents (Ron Kouchi came to check out the action and Jessica Iwata’s parents had the right idea — watch the game) out while the Babe Ruth games were going on … was nice to see Loni Oketani and her ‘ohana (thanks for the offer of the cold drink, Randi!). But, how do you split when Shannon Oketani is on one team and Marcus Oketani is on another team? That’s not counting Arthur taking pictures through the fence and Jake helping coach in one of the dugouts.
Coach Kevin Devitt and Karl Ubongen will probably be at the Team Soccer Direct camps that start Monday at Island School…check them out!
