Kristie Henry, Maile Dreir and Lehua McCabe spearheaded a strong Gee’s Angels’ effort as the 14 and Under girls basketball team swept their double-header Saturday in the ZZ Youth Basketball program.
Henry and Dreir finished with six points each in a 34-13 opening romp over Kaulupono A, and followed McCabe’s eight points with four each in a 27-23 win over Kaulupono B in the second game.
McCabe, Mahea Hanie-Grace, Hartley Dabin and Arrisa Thronas each chipped in four points in the Game 1 victory. Jessilyn Aki finished with six points to help win Game 2.
Kaulupono A girls Vakeesha Lagazo and Searra Kaohi led the way for their squad in the first game, notching seven and four points, respectively, with Sanoe Kaohelaulii adding a pair.
Bree-Ann Cox-Abuan topped the Kaulupono B effort with eight points, followed by Jayme Jacinto’s six.
In later action, Kaulupono B rebounded from their earlier loss to take a 26-14 win over the Knock Out Girls, paced by Charlyn Ortiz’s game-high 10 points and Joanna Ares’ seven points.
Kelsey Cadiente led the Knock Out Girls’ effort with six points, followed by Aimee Palaroan and Sierra Mayer contributing three points apiece and Janessa Grady chipping in a pair.
Earlier in the day, Cadiente finished with a game-high 14 points in a 31-28 win over Wailua. Palaroan contributed eight points in that victory.
On the Wailua side of the ball, Kaira Kupihea finished with a dozen points, Kira Nakamura added six and Jodi Das and Victoria Tuttle each tallied four.
In the Boys 16 and Under division, David Mendes finished with 11 and 14 points, leading Wailua in both games to earn a split with Breakaway and the Westside Hornets.
Cody Abigania added eight in Wailua’s 40-37 loss to Breakaway, with Jin Wu following with seven marks.
Wu finished with nine points in the 47-45 win over the Hornets, with Abigania adding seven markers.
Tino Ramos and Clifton Asuncion paced Breakaway with 10 points each in the win, while Lester Alacar added nine points and Jeremy Robinson finished with six.
James Sagucio led the Hornets’ effort with 16 points, followed by Clereson Torres’ 10 points. Micah Moriwake finished with six points.
A split was in the cards for the Southside 16 and Under boys team as well, winning 39-28 over the Lakers but falling 53-41 to the Kapa‘a Warriors.
Vincent Geronimo led Southside in both games, scoring a dozen in the opener before exploding for 25 in the second game.
Javin Balisacan added eight points and Braxton Garma and Keelan Sakuda each scored six for Southside to help beat the Lakers.
Garma also scored eight in support of Geronimo’s 25 against Kapa‘a, but it wasn’t enough as the rest of the team scored just eight as well.
Aric Cansino posted a game-high 15 points for the Lakers in Game 1, followed by Taylor Bell’s eight points.
Halem Medina led the way for Kapa‘a’s Game 2 win with 14 points, followed by Kekoa Prem’s 13. John Beralas added seven points.
