WAILUA — Kyrptonite exploded for four goals in the second half to claim the men’s soccer championship Sunday at Wailua Homesteads Park.
Kyle Strickland finished with two assists in the 4-1 championship win over the red-shirted Hanalei before an audience that lined the makai fence line.
Thanks to an intense defensive effort, the green shirts were already held a 2-0 second half lead before Hanalei could get on the board.
Tui Alapa opened the scoring on an assist by Strickland. Eddie Adams followed with a header on a cross from Keoni Nakano.
The second half scoring was even more impressive considering Kryptonite had to shoot into brisk tradewinds. Hanalei goalkeeper Parker Blaylock got a workout in the first half defending a barrage of shots boosted by the wind.
With an “O2” emblazoned on their red jersey’s, Hanalei answered as one of their newer players scored off a corner kick by Christian Marston about three minutes after the second Kryptonite goal.
Zac Davis answered that goal on a pass from George Alfiler and Kryptonite’s final score came from Lucas Hassett with another assist from Strickland.
The champion Kryptonite team members include Alapa, Alfiler, Adams, Nakano, Strickland, Davis, Hassett, Rawlin Toki, Randy Toki, Waika Oliver, Daniel Minei, Duncan MacDonald, Christian McKeown, Kainoa Nakazawa, Kaena Mayer, Tyson Wakayama, Tyrone Akana and goalkeeper Erik Baxter.
