County officials announced contingency plans for The Kaua‘i Bus in the event of a nurses’ strike at Wilcox Hospital, which could begin after midnight tonight, a press release from the mayor’s office states.
“We are hoping that a strike will be averted, however, if it does occur, we have contingency plans in place,” Bernard Carvalho, director of the Offices of Community Assistance, said in the release.
In order to maintain the reliability and timeliness of The Kaua‘i Bus, all fixed-route buses will not stop at the Wilcox Hospital foyer for the duration of the strike. The closest bus stop to the hospital for passengers on fixed-route buses including those traveling from the north shore or Kapahi on routes 400 and 600 will be at Wal-Mart.
Paratransit buses that serve the elderly and persons with disabilities will continue to be dropped off at Wilcox Hospital, however, paratransit passengers should expect delays, the release states.
Seniors and disabled persons who might may qualify for paratransit service during the strike.
