HONOLULU — This Friday, 14 of Hawai‘i’s most beautiful women will vie for the chance to represent the Aloha State in Las Vegas at the Miss America pageant in January.
Jasmine Ornellas and Angela Everhart will represent Kaua‘i in the pageant.
Ornellas is the reigning Miss Kaua‘i, and Everhart is currently Miss Garden Isle.

Miss Hawai’i is the official preliminary to Miss America, the world’s largest provider of scholarship assistance for young women and one of the nation’s leading achievement programs, the release states. This year, the Miss Hawai‘i Scholarship Program is offering more than $100,000 in cash scholarships and tuition grants.
Each contestant will compete in swimsuit, talent, evening wear and personal interview. In addition, each contestant is required to select a platform for which she is an advocate during her year of service as Miss Hawai‘i.
Contestants must first qualify by winning one of the local preliminary pageants held statewide. In addition to the Kaua‘i beauties, a dozen more round out the field of 14: Jill Lesley Pascua, Miss Maui; Nicole Cabral, Miss Kahala; Sky Leimana Ritte-Camara, Miss Molokai; Kauionalani Ramos, Miss West Oahu; Brandie Cazimero, Miss North Shore; Keaolani Mento, Miss Leeward; Rebecca Ynigues, Miss Kona Coffee; Sheri Canopin, Miss VIP; Ashley Layfield, Miss Island Oahu; Pilialoha Gaison, Miss Island Ilima; Natasha Akau, Miss East Oahu; and Ana Marie Tsukano, Miss Honolulu.
Hawai‘i first entered the Miss America Organization in 1948, winning the coveted tiara twice with Carolyn Sapp in 1991 and Angela Perez Baraquio in 2000.
Kanoelani Gibson finished First Runner Up Finalist in 2003. Hawaiian women have placed in the top 10 14 times.
The pageant will rebroadcast at 10:30 p.m. Saturday on K5 The Home Team.
