KALAHEO — Papalina is still looking for its first win after suffering a second loss in as many nights Friday at the 12 Under boys division of the ZZ/Rotary Club of West Kaua‘i Youth Basketball games.
Playing up had its advantages for Eastside, who fielded four players who have already seen roundball action in higher age divisions.
Keane Agoot, one of the four players, led the victory with a game-high 14 points, followed by Jude Cruz adding a dozen.
John Das and Keoni Kinzie, both in the experienced ranks, added eight points apiece in the win.
Brandon Palacio paced the Papalina effort with eight points, and Jayden Albo added four.
Christian Garma and Keanu Yamaoka each finished with three points in the first of three games.
Claire Owens’ four points in the final frame pulled the Kilauea Hui out of a seesaw battle with Fer Fun to clinch a 25-21 win in Game 2.
Owens and April Johnson led the Hui to the tune of seven points each, followed by Carolyn Troutman’s four.
Kayla Werner, whose tough inside play stood up against the Hui hammering, led Fer Fun with seven points.
Carie Inouye, whose two breakaway plays in the third quarter deadlocked the contest for the Fer Fun redshirts, joined Nani Dennis with a four-point showing.
Stephanie Kashiwabara’s quickness netted her 11 points to lead the Kaua‘i ATV to a 31-20 win over Wailua in Game 3. Rachael Taira, Holly Iloreta and Janee Correa each added six points in the victory.
The Kaua‘i ATV win handed Wailua their second straight loss.
Wailua got 10 points from Kennilyn Nakamura and three marks from Chelsie Villatora.
