This week: Kyoko Ishigami, Princeville
by The Garden Island
• Family: “It’s just me and my husband, Tony Allen.”
• Occupation: Concierge, Princeville Hotel
• Hobbies: “I like drawing, painting, ceramics, tennis and golf.”
• What do you like most about The Garden Island? “I read what’s important and what’s going on with events.”
• What do you like most about living on Kaua‘i? “I really enjoy the beauty of the environment. When I moved here I didn’t really like it at first. I’m from Tokyo and the pace here compared to there is so slow. When I shop I have to come to Lihu‘e. But now I really like the beauty and appreciate the beauty more. I like the slow pace now. I realize we have to protect our nature. If this place is so limited, there are so many other places people can go to.”
• If you could change one thing about life on Kaua‘i, what would it be?
“I think we should spend more of our energy to protect the environment. Use the media to educate people about the environment. We need to protect our coral reef and not take the environment for granted.”
