Congratulations to all the winners of the Texas Hold’em poker tournament to benefit Special Olympics Kaua‘i. Chala Vidinha had himself a ball at that event. Michael Knight was the big winner of two nights at the Princeville Resort, Lance Marushige got the Sheraton Kaua‘i luau and Galen Shigeta earned the Kipu Ranch Adventures ATV tour for third place. Brent Shimazu had his “High hand” early to earn the inter-island round trip from Mokihana Travel. Mahalo to Jocelyn Barriga for getting us in the loop. Next stop for Jocelyn is the “Cop on Top” at Safeway stores … this one is a blast. Check it out.
Hats off to Kevin Hoagan for his feat of paddling across the Kaua‘i Channel on the standup surfboard … Kendall Struxness’ wife was at the beach to welcome the athlete home and said the outrigger crew is doing well up in the Northwest Hawaiian Islands.
Getting to do that job was an excuse to have a Joe Grace plate lunch with Eric Rita and Lanaly Cabalo down at the beach … no oama at the seawall yet, but if you ask grandma Soly Fernandez, she’ll probably know all the spots.
Hats off to Theresa Koki who did a great job organizing the mayor’s regional meeting Wednesday night in Koloa … Susan Cox got to show me pictures of Kori Sakamoto battling six-foot giants in Las Vegas when Kaulupono did the O‘ahu and Las Vegas tour for basketball.
OK, ‘nuff said … let’s see if we can see Colleen Hanabusa do the bon dance thingie with Jonathan Chun.
