Three girls from the Big Island are part of Team Aloha, an all-state girls basketball team that will compete in the Adidas Fall Finish Tournament in Indianapolis from Sept. 30 to Oct. 1.
In a joint announcement made by Honolulu mayor Mufi Hannemann and Keith Amemiya, executive director of the Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association, the team members were introduced Saturday.
Jazzmin Awa Williams, a senior from Konawaena High School, Vicky Tagalicod, a sophomore from Hilo High School, and Keisha Kanekoa, a senior from Honoka‘a High School were the three Big Island players named to the all-star squad.
Other members include Courtney Gaddis (Kalani), Jamie Smith (Iolani), Ashley Medcalf (Christian Academy), Shawna Kuehu (Punahou), Shaena Kuehu (Punahou), Nicole Fu (Maryknoll), Chelsie Sato (McKinley), Analee Viena-Lota (Kamehameha-Kapalama) and Iwalani Rodrigues (Roosevelt).
Dana Takahara Dias, who played at University High School and the University of Hawai‘i, will coach the team. She was the girls basketball coach at Moanalua High school and the athletic director before being appointed by Hannemann to be the deputy director of the Department of Parks and Recreation.
