HONOLULU — Gov. Linda Lingle late last week released $2.25 million for campus improvement projects at Kihei and King Kamehameha III Elementary Schools on Maui.
“All of our students deserve to attend classes in safe, comfortable campus buildings,” Lingle said in a press release.
To address long-standing heat problems at Kihei Elementary, Lingle released $2 million to complete the design and construction of air-conditioning systems at six classroom buildings and 12 portable buildings, the release states. Water lines and electrical systems will be installed to accommodate the new air-conditioning systems. This phase of the project is priority number 59 of 89 in the Department of Education’s Capital Improvement Project implementation plan approved in February.
At King Kamehameha III Elementary in Lahaina, $250,000 will be used to design, construct and provide equipment for a portable classroom that will help meet enrollment growth and educational program needs. Construction is scheduled for completion by May 2007, the release states. This project is priority number 89 of 89 in the DOE’s CIP implementation plan.
