Ho‘ike, Kaua‘i’s Community Television, developed a new partnership with Hale Halawai ‘Ohana ‘O Hanalei to bring video production training and services to the residents of the North Shore with the opening of a new community media center at the Hanalei Community Center.
“We will be providing students with basic video production training,” said Ho‘ike executive director J Robertson. The project began with a grant from the Hawaii Peoples Fund to support the Hawaii Ocean Film Festival. Based at the Hanalei Community Center, the project encourages local film makers to create short films about marine resources, ocean recreation and cultural connections to the sea. Next week they will present the festival at the War Memorial Convention Hall with a portion of the proceeds going to support the new Hanalei Media Project.
The first group of video producers to be trained will be the students of the Hanalei Learning Academy Charter School and members of the community interested in training other students and adults in video production.
Classes will begin in next month, with sign-ups beginning at the Hawaii Ocean Film Festival benefit event.
