HANAPEPE — Caleb Sarsona had two touchdowns and Joe Enrique iced the 20-0 victory as Kapa‘a Warrior JV opened their season on a winning note.
Sarsona opened the scorebooks in the first quarter and capped the victory with no time left on the clock in the third quarter by weaving in and out of Waimea traffic for a 47-yard TD scamper.
Ikaika Fuerte split the uprights on the point-after boots.
Enrique capped a Warrior opening drive in the third quarter on a 3-yard charge with Fuerte doing the PAT honors.
Waimea, however, had their opportunities to score, but couldn’t close the door on a tough Kapa‘a defense.
On a fourth-and-goal situation late in the fourth period, the Menehune were threatening inside the Kapa‘a 10-yard line, but the pass went incomplete as the buzzer sounded on the 20-0 score.
The Menehune, 0-1, will have another shot at the win column when they travel to Vidinha Stadium Friday to take on the defending champion Kaua‘i Red Raiders starting at 5 p.m.
