Mary Arruda Nitta
Mary Arruda Nitta of Kekaha died at home on Sept. 8, 2006, at the age of 91. Born in Waimea Valley, Kauai on May 13, 1915, she was a lab technician with Kekaha Sugar Company.
She is survived by five sons, Kenneth (Thelma) Nitta of Honolulu, O‘ahu, Roland Nitta of Houston, Tex., Allen (Natalie) Nitta of Kekaha, Mitchell (Naives) Nitta of Lubbock, Tex. and Wilson (Ruth) Nitta of Waimea; two daughters, Sister Thereselle-Kuulei of Bapchule, Ariz. and Lily (Francis) Sakamoto of Honolulu; 20 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Antonina Arruda Lee of Waimea Valley, Isabel Arruda Takekawa of Kekaha and Beatrice Calizo of Honolulu; numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 16, at St. Theresa Catholic church in Kekaha; Mass to be celebrated at 2 p.m. followed by burial at the Kekaha Public Cemetery. Casual attire is suggested.
Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.
Fermin Antonio Cayaban
Fermin Antonio Cayaban of ‘Ele‘ele died at his home on Sept. 9, 2006, at the age of 95.
Born in Piddig, Ilocos Norte, Philippines on Sept. 10, 1910, he retired from Kekaha Plantation as a field worker.
Preceded in death by his wife, Basalisa, he is survived by his son, Marcelo (Loreta) Cayaban of ‘Ele‘ele; sisters Paulina Ramos of Honolulu and Patrocinia Nagit of the Philippines; one brother Benito Cayaban of the Philippines; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 16, at Borthwick Kauai Mortuary in Koloa where memorial services will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial to follow at Hanapepe Public Cemetery.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
Pennie Niau
Pennie Niau of ‘Ele‘ele, died Sept. 8, 2006, at Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital at the age of 45.
Born April 7, 1961, in Hawai‘i, she was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, William “Billy” Sarocan of ‘Ele‘ele; son: Kalani Sarocan of Koloa; daughters: Kaui Sarocan of Koloa, Uluwehi Sarocan of ‘Ele‘ele and Kuuipo Constantino of ‘Ele‘ele; one brother: Tony (Linda) Niau; hanai son: Kapena Bridges; one grandson and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family at 9 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 15, at Borthwick Mortuary Chapel in Koloa, where services will be celebrated at 11 a.m.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
