Helen “Babe” Shepherd of Lihu‘e, died at Garden Isle Healthcare on Sept. 23, 2006, at the age of 78. Born in Liberty, New York on April 12, 1928, she was a singer/entertainer and homemaker.
Preceded in death by a sister, Florence Wheeler of Liberty, NY, she is survived by three daughters, Leanne Mangabang of Monticello, NY, Paula Chin of Forestburgh, NY and Tracy Pandiscia of Westchester, NY; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brother, James Shields of North Carolina; numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family at 12 noon on Tuesday, Sept. 26, at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church. Officiating the service will be Rev. William Miller. Donations may be made to the St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Lihu‘e. Casual attire is suggested.
Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.
Geraldine Dabin
Geraldine “Gerry” Iwalani Gaan Dabin of Kapahi died at home on Sept. 25, 2006, at the age of 65.
Born in Lihu‘e on July 3, 1941, she was an auditor for Plantation Hale and Department of Education and she was a member of the first woman’s platoon of the United States Army when Hawai‘i became a state.
She is survived by her son Larry “Kalani” (Shelby) Dabin; two daughters Jennelle (Lori) Duterte, Cheryl “Kalei” (Nic) Dabin; father Herman Y.W. Chong Sr.; three sisters, Veronica “Cookie” McLaughin, Nalani (Ronnie) Data, Sheila (Damien) Ventura; brother Herman Chong Jr.; nine grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Laureano “Larry” Dabin and mother Thelma L. Chong.
A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, Sept. 28, at St. Catherines Church in Kapahi with visitation from 9:15 a.m. and services beginning at 10 a.m..
Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
John C. Casmass
John C. Casmass of Waimea died Sept. 22, 2006, at Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu at the age of 44.
Born Feb. 28, 1962, in New York, he was a chef.
He is survived by two daughters: Jade Casmass and Amber Casmass, both of Waimea; two sisters: Debra Borzumato and Barbara Walsh, both of New York; and two brothers: Rick Casmass of New York and Paul Casmass of Florida.
Friends may visit with the family beginning at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 28, at Borthwick Mortuary in Koloa, where services will begin at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Kekaha Public Cemetery.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
