We are all affected by toxins.
The health-robbing effects of heavy metal poisoning are well documented. If you experience fatigue, headaches, fuzzy thinking, difficulty concentrating, allergies or food sensitivities, high blood pressure, muscle aches and weakness, tremors, skin problems, nerve pain, infertility or any illness, you may have toxic levels of heavy metals in your body.
“I can now very comfortably and definitively state to you, that, in my opinion, based on the evidence, every single chronic insidious disease process is related to one word: toxicity,” said Dr. Rashid Buttar, a board-certified diplomat in preventive medicine and clinical metal toxicology. “You cannot address the issues of aging unless you address detoxification.”
Heavy metals are mineral elements such as mercury, lead, cadmium, arsenic and aluminum, which are prevalent in our environment and products that are in common use worldwide, as well as our deep ocean fish.
“Five years ago I wouldn’t have said this, even a year ago I wouldn’t have said it,” Buttar said. “But the more success we’ve had, the clearer it has become: All chronic disease is toxicity.”
It’s probably impossible to completely avoid toxic exposure in the world today. However, anyone can minimize exposure with increased knowledge about the sources of toxins. It is also possible to detoxify metals and other chemical toxins which have accumulated in our bodies.
Dr. Lyn Hanshew, a board-certified family practice physician and detoxification expert from Washington state, will speak on Kaua‘i Friday and Saturday on the subject of toxins.
Hanshew is a nationally recognized speaker, author and environmental activist. She has practiced holistic medicine over 20 years, focusing on environmentally induced aging and metabolic disorders such as overweight, hormone and immune issues, autism, learning disabilities, ADD, ADHD, MS and allergies, which are all thought to be largely caused by heavy metals and other toxicity.
Hanshew is developing a holistic research and health center in Belize with top researchers and practitioners of integrative medicine from around the world. She has pioneered the creation and interpretation of a “challenge test” using activated liquid zeolite as a chelator to assess which of 20 different heavy metals are present in a person’s body.
This summer’s studies revealed that ahi contains higher levels of mercury than was previously recognized.
Mercury in the ocean comes from coal-fired power plants throughout the world. The smoke drifts on the wind and drops into the oceans, where it accumulates in higher concentrations in fish higher up the food chain.
Pregnant women, women who may become pregnant and women who are nursing are considered to be an “at-risk group” by the FDA and are warned not to eat big eye ahi, shark, swordfish, tilefish, king mackerel and Pacific blue marlin due to high mercury levels.
Excessive mercury can pose a significant threat to infants and young children. The Hawai‘i Department of Health has agreed with the FDA and advised consumers to learn which types of fish have higher mercury levels.
Fish are only one source of mercury. Mercury is emitted in the vog that comes directly from volcanoes. Silver amalgam fillings are another controversial and significant source of mercury exposure, as is thimerosal, a preservative used in vaccinations.
It is now known that toxins pass from mother to baby. The Environmental Working Group, a nonprofit organization, has done pioneering work assessing the toxic “Body Burden” in adults and infants. In one study which tested the umbilical cord blood of 10 newborns, an average of 200 industrial chemicals and pollutants were found. This can lead to developmental and behavioral problems and disease.
Recent studies have shown correlations between the rise in childhood autism, and mercury in vaccinations. Attorney Robert F. Kennedy Jr., son of the late Sen. Bobby Kennedy, has written on the attempt of drug companies to conceal the data and avoid law suits.
Hanshew brings with her a wealth of knowledge about how people of every age, from keiki to kupuna, can safely and easily clear their bodies of toxins to enjoy good health, mental acuity, high energy, hormonal balance, longevity and freedom from pain.
On Friday from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Church of the Pacific in Princeville, Hanshew will give an introductory talk on toxins.
On Saturday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Hanshew will go deeper into the subject of how people are being affected by toxins. Learn scientific keys to reversing symptoms like fatigue, mental fog, hormonal imbalance, allergies, candida, achiness, obesity and kids’ behavior issues.
