LA‘IE, O‘ahu — In the Brigham Young University-Hawai‘i 3-0 domination over Chaminade, one former Kaua‘i player ended her season due to injuries.
Marissa Fountain, former soccer player for Waimea High School, suffered an ACL tear of her right knee, it was discovered, following an MRI done Wednesday.
BYUH lost little time scoring against Chaminade, opening the scorebooks in the 20th minute as Heidi Bushman took a pass from Katie Beeton and beat out the Chaminade goalie Michelle Halloran.
A Jill Haar goal gave BYUH a 2-0 lead at the half after Haar booted the goal centered by left win Brooke Petersen.
A Kaitlin Johnson goal off a Bushman pass in the 63rd minute sealed the game for BYUH.
In the win, BYUH outshot Chaminade 26-0 to improve to 5-1 for the season.
Of the three known Kaua‘i graduates playing intercollegiate soccer, Fountain’s injury is the most recent. Earlier, Cory Arashiro, a Kaua‘i High School graduate playing for Pacific University in Oregon, suffered similar injuries that ended her season for the year.
Emma Makepa-Foley, another Kaua‘i High graduate, is currently on the roster for the University of Hawai‘i women’s soccer team, but has not seen action.
