HANAPEPE — Pono Matthews pulled in two passes for touchdowns, Brendan Young had two TDs and Kainoa Lemke booted two field goals as Kaua‘i swept over Waimea 41-0 Friday night.
Matthews had TD receptions of 81 and 64 yards, respectively, to lead the Kaua‘i receivers with 207 of their 375 passing yards in the win.
Statistics provided by Anahola Joel Pahukula saw Kaua‘i pile up 430 (59) yards against Waimea’s 155 (50) yards in the win that pushed Kaua‘i to a 3-0 standing as they host Kapa‘a this Friday.
Waimea falls to 2-2 and Kapa‘a is still looking for that elusive victory.
Waimea QB Kalen Fleming was 7-10-0 for 44 yards with Alex Palacio leading the receivers with two receptions for 21 yards. Max Agor pulled in two for seven yards, Alan-Michael Gaspar had one reception for 14 yards and Oni Schmidt pulled in one reception for four yards.
Following Matthews, Bradley Semana pulled in five passes for 78 yards, Brendan Young had four receptions for 53 yards and a TD (24), Tyrus Ceria-Lux gathered in three passes for 21 yards, Jonathan Gebauer finished with a 9-yard contribution on one pass and Travis Kanehe added 7 yards on one reception.
Top rushers included Young for Kaua‘i who finished with 61 yards on 13 carries. Ikaika Rapacon topped the Waimea rushers with 46 yards on 10 carries followed closely by Schmidt with 42 yards.
Anthony Calves topped the Kaua‘i defense with seven unassisted tackles and a pair of assisted drops followed by Darren Satta who tallied three unassisted and three assisted stops.
Anson Achuara has a QB sack along with six unassisted and three assisted tackles for Waimea.
