The new Hilton Kauai Beach Hotel and Resort selected award-winning singer Amy Hanaiali‘i Gilliom of Kilauea to celebrate its official opening tomorrow night.
“This is our gift to the community,” said general manager Rob Gunthner in a press release. “We want everyone to see our newly renovated property and enjoy the afternoon concert. We are particularly pleased to be featuring Amy, who is herself a resident of Kaua‘i.”
Gilliom is Hawai‘i’s top-selling female vocalist and has garnered numerous accolades over the years including multiple Na Hoku Hanohano Awards, as well as a Grammy nomination for Best Hawaiian Music Album. Her second album, “Hawaiian Tradition,” placed her on the World Billboard Charts, a first for an album written solely in the Hawaiian language. She is known worldwide for her soaring vocal range, polished performances and diversity as an artist.
Her latest album, “Generation Hawai‘i,” released in August, received rave reviews from nearly all of Hawai‘i media.
Gilliom traveled the world, receiving formal training in European classical music, jazz, blues, American standards and pop, and she holds a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Musical Theater. Gilliom has won the hearts of many with her mastery of hai, the islands’ traditional falsetto style.
With its new identity as the Hilton Kauai Beach Resort, the 350-room oceanfront property on Kaua‘i’s Eastside comes full circle after two decades.
The hotel originally opened in 1986 as the Kauai Hilton, and Hilton is now being welcomed back for a “hana hou,” or encore, at the property. The resort adopted the “hana hou” concept as its theme for the opening celebration.
The Hana Hou Concert takes place beachfront at the Hilton Kauai Beach Resort tomorrow.
Doors open at 1 p.m. At 2 p.m. entertainer Kelii Kanealii, who was part of the original award-winning Hapa duo with Barry Flanagan, kicks off the event, followed by Hanaiali‘i’s performance from 2:30 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. Tented seating will be provided, and food and beverages will be available for purchase throughout the afternoon, beginning at 1 p.m.
The Hilton was provided 500 tickets to the Hana Hou Concert, all on a complimentary basis. Tickets for the show were distributed by local radio stations earlier this week.
Tickets will not be available at the door.
