The annual Hawai‘i Conservation Conference, sponsored by the Hawai‘i Conservation Alliance, is the largest gathering of people actively involved in the protection and management of Hawai‘i’s environmental conservation.
The main purpose of the conference is to facilitate interaction among natural resource managers and the scientific community.
It is an opportunity to share experiences and ideas on a wide range of conservation issues.
The theme of the 2007 conference is Conservation Strategies: Matching Science and Management.
The conference committee is now soliciting abstracts for presentations and posters that demonstrate Applied Science, and encourages the coupling of presentations of science and management, with the first presentation introducing science and the second emphasizing how science is being used in conservation management.
Conservation papers distinct from this general theme will be considered by their level of contribution to conservation and significant research.
Papers, posters, symposia, forums and field-trips can all be contributed.
All abstracts for papers and posters should clearly state results and management implications of the work.
Proposals for symposia and forums should be e-mailed to hcastaff@hawaii.edu with the following information: title; proposed theme/question and significance to HCA; and a planned list of presentations, presenters/participants and whether they have agreed to participate.
Contributed papers will be 18-minute oral presentations, including time for questions. Papers will be grouped into sessions with similar themes wherever possible.
Concurrent sessions are anticipated.
Posters will be displayed July 25-27.
Symposium presentations should include five or six speakers at 18 minutes each, to coordinate symposia time with concurrent contributed sessions.
Symposia will either be related to the general theme of science and management or address newly emerging topics or significant research.
Forum presentations will have a panel of speakers and should conform to similar criteria as symposia.
Forums will be approximately 11/2 hours.
Field-trip proposals are encouraged.
All proposals and abstracts must be received no later than March 30.
Abstracts must be submitted through the online form.
