KAPA‘A — They meet each morning between Tuesday and Saturday for about an hour.
When the Kapa‘a pool re-opened recently, they eagerly celebrated its re-opening so they could get together as they’ve done for the past four years.
“This is not an exercise class or program,” said Jeremy Haupt, the water safety officer in charge of the Kapa‘a pool. “They’re not certified or anything like that. They just like getting together and working through some exercises.”
Gathered in a circle, one person takes the lead, or makes a suggestion on which routine they want to work through, and the rest follow.
And as is common with friends, they have affectionate nicknames for each other such as King Neptune, water sprites, mermaid and more.
Since it’s not a formal program, interested people can just show up while they’re working and ask to join in the fun.
