PRINCEVILLE — The Kapa‘a High School boys and girls tennis teams swept the opening matches against Kula last week at the Princeville Courts. In the boys matches, Kapa‘a went 5-0 while Kula School took one match in the girls contests.
PRINCEVILLE — The Kapa‘a High School boys and girls tennis teams swept the opening matches against Kula last week at the Princeville Courts.
In the boys matches, Kapa‘a went 5-0 while Kula School took one match in the girls contests. The Kapa‘a girls finished 4-1. Kapa‘a also took the consolation contest as the team of Lauren Esaki and Tori Yatogo handled the Kula team of Emily Rider and Ellie Sherrer, 8-0.
Playing in the No. 3 doubles court, the Kula team of Rider and Sherrer defeated Naomi Taylor and Alex Gausepohl 6-0, 6-2.
Cherine Ito and Eryn O’Shaugnessy, the Kapa‘a No. 1 doubles team, and Mailika Napoleon and Yatogo, the Warriors No. 2 doubles pair, won their matches by default.
In the girls singles, No. 1 Lyndsey Tom won the match by default for Kapa‘a, while No. 2 Kelli Okamoto defeated Kula’s Diane Sater 6-0, 6-2.
Kapa‘a took all of its boys matches including the consolation match where Thomas Gausepohl defeated Kula’s Kyle Sherrer 8-2.
Matthew Hanley prevailed for the Warriors in the No. 1 court by downing Kula’s Matthew Vinsko 6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-3.
In the No. 2 singles court, Kilakila Young defeated Kula’s Marcus Rose 6-3, 6-1.
Kapa‘a boys swept the doubles matches by default including the No. 1 team of Steven Pascual and Dustin Valdez, the No. 2 pair of JJ Amo and Gausepohl and the No. 3 team of Angel Hernandez and Ador Lopez.
Kula will be hosting Island School today starting at noon at The Club at Hanalei while Kapa‘a gets a bye as Waimea visits Kaua‘i at the Kiahuna Tennis Courts.
