People have an opportunity to recognize and honor 12 of Kaua‘i’s outstanding seniors at the 41st annual Older American Award and Recognition ceremonies today.
“Kaua‘i’s Kupuna, Living Healthier,” is the theme of this year’s event which is open to the public starting at 9 a.m. at the Hilton Kaua‘i Beach Resort.
Basilia Asuncion, Nannette Butler, Lillian Daily and Josephine Dela Torre are some of the kupuna who will be recognized for the award.
Kikuo Harada, Asako Iwamoto, John Iwamoto, Loretta King and Commander Albert Moe, USN (Ret.) are also on the roster of outstanding seniors.
Ramona Naka‘ahiki, Herman Paleka and Bernice Silva round out the list of nominees who were selected by individuals and organ-izations for the Older American Award.
These seniors will be recognized for their contributions to the community, and personal achievements and accomplishments during the event that is held in celebration of May’s being Older Americans Month.
This is a time for Kaua‘i and the nation to recognize the older adults in their communities, states a press release from the County Agency on Elderly Affairs.
