LIHU‘E — Young sports enthusiasts interested in honing their athletic skills are invited to attend county-sponsored “Speed & Quickness” clinics scheduled at locations around the island covering soccer, football and volleyball.
The clinics are all being offered free to Kaua‘i youths.
Transportation to and from the clinics on The Kaua‘i Bus is available for free.
Theresa Koki, County anti-drug coordinator said in a prepared statement,
“This is a great opportunity for students to meet college athletes and coaches and pick up valuable pointers from them”.
The clinics are part of Kaua‘i’s Community Drug Response Plan, which, according to the Mayor’s Office, are intended to provide fun, wholesome activities for minors, with the idea that through sports they will have a healthy alternative to mind-altering substances.
Participants are required to wear athletics shoes and arrive 45 minutes prior to the start of each clinic. To register, please contact either Edie Ignacio at 241-6646 or via e-mail, eignacio@kauai.gov, or Koki, 241-6312, tkoki@kauai.gov.
Registration forms are also available at the anti-drug office located on the first floor of the round building at the Lihu‘e Civic Center, Suite 150. To arrange for transportation to and from the clinics, please call The Kaua‘i Bus at 241-6410.
If additional support or an auxiliary aid is required for a child to participate, please call Ignacio or Koki at least five days before the clinics begin.
University of Hawai‘i Assistant Soccer Coach Joshua Fouts, along with UH student athletes Jessica Domingo, Shawn Higa and Lehua Wood, will be flying to Kaua‘i for the soccer clinics, covering basic as well as more advanced techniques.
