The Kukui‘ula Outrigger Club is halfway to reaching its fund-raising goal of getting a new canoe for the club and creating a Web site for the “End Ice on Kaua‘i” program.
The club hosted a golf tournament on Sunday toward its goal at the Kiahuna Golf Club in Po‘ipu.
Each participant received a six-pack cooler with a Red Bull, bottle of Fiji water, a Cliff bar, Hawaiian Tropic lip balm and a sleeve of balls. For a list of results, see today’s Scoreboard on B3.
Seth Morales ekes out Class B win at r/c races
Seth Morales chipped out a slim win over Reggie Aribon after numerous lead changes in the 4wd Nitro Sedan B class races during the last Garden Isle r/c Racers event, Sunday.
With the win, Morales topped the division over Aribon with Bart Garcia and Dimi Rivera rounding out the leader board.
Dennis Ginez was the top driver in the 4wd Nitro Sedan A class followed by Arnold Morales, Wendell Esposo and Noel Udaondo.
Aaron Arizo topped the 4wd Nitro Sedan C division followed by John Echalar and Phillip Acob.
The next Garden Isle r/c races will be held July 22 at the Wailua off-road track.
Races start at 10 a.m. and there is no admission to view the competition.

Namolokama canoe club swims in
Participants from Kekaha to Ha‘ena, along with visitors from the Mainland, flocked to the Hanalei Pier on Saturday.
More than 90 keiki and adults from 6 to 70 years of age participated in the 1st Annual Namolokama O Hanalei Canoe Club Open Water Swim event either around the pier or along the shoreline for a 1/2- or 1-mile swim.
The races start at 9 a.m.
For the keiki events, the crowd cheered them on while standing on the pier and at the finish chute. Watchful eyes from the safety patrol were on one-man canoes for all races.
More than 50 adults completed the 1/2- and 1-mile course. At the completion of all races, president Russell Spier, with Namolokama members, announced each age group as they gave out stained-glass medals to the top three winners in eleven age groups. All keiki got a winner’s ribbon.

Cansino pulls off last-second Kalepa winner
Aric Cansino ripped a three-point bomb with just seconds remaining to pull the Kalepa Hillsiders into the winner’s column.
Playing in the Kaua‘i Youth Basketball Association 18 and Under boys league, the Kalepa Hillsiders were trailing the Southwest Boyz “B” team when Cansino unloaded the trey for the 37-35 win.
Clareson Torres netted 20 points to lead the Southwest Boyz “A” to a 46-36 edge over Wailua in Game 2, Thursday night at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
Curran Doctolero tied Torres with a 20-point performance to lead the Wailua effort.
With the last-second win, Kalepa Hillsiders remain undefeated in the league. Travis Stein paced the Hillsiders with a dozen points while McDonald Alop and Kasey Okihara finished with 8 and 7 points, respectively, to lead the Boyz “B” team.
