The numbers are in: 118 swimmers from teams from across the state registered for the Mokihana Aquatics swimming club’s annual two-day Fun Meet.
The first event will be the Kaua‘i’s Fastest Swimmer competition, which will accept swimmers up until 8:30 a.m. This is an open invitation to all men and women of all ages to compete for a total of $500.
The competition starts at 9:30 a.m.
A highlight for the Fun Meet will be the girls 100 freestyle. It has been 20 years since a female swimmer from Kaua‘i has swam under 1:00 for the four laps of freestyle. According to preliminary times, there are four swimmers with the potential to do so.
A swimmer to watch is Yasmine Ware, a 10-year-old standout swimmer, who is currently at the top of her age group in the state. She will compete on both days — sure to be a crowd pleaser.
At the conclusion of tomorrow’s meet, 1976 Olympic finalist Chris Woo will host a free breaststroke clinic. The clinic will start at approximately 1:30 p.m. and is open to everyone.
