The Kaua‘i Eco-Roundtable, a network open to all locally based environmental groups, presents its quarterly meeting from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the War Memorial Convention Hall at 4191 Hardy St.
Goal of the quarterly meetings is to bring together all of Kaua‘i’s environmental groups, allowing them to discuss issues and challenges to island living. The goal this time is to reach out to the public so that interested residents can hear firsthand what is really going on with Kaua‘i’s environment directly from the active groups that are out there everyday, according to a press release. Among the top issues of the day to be discussed, are:
• The Kaua‘i Sustainability Conference Oct. 14.
• The Superferry: Irene Bowie, executive director of Maui Tomorrow Foundation Inc., will give an update about the legal actions that face the Superferry by Kaua‘i and Maui. James from “Who We Are,” a coalition of environmental organizations, will speak about a planned Aug. 18, Superferry meeting, a community gathering to discuss the Superferry and its negative impacts for Kaua‘i
• Proposed ethanol plant and waste-to-energy incinerator — Ben Sullivan from Apollo Kaua‘i will discuss the proposed coal-burning ethanol plant and the waste to energy incinerator plant with questions and answers from the community.
• Sonar — Dr. Marcia Green from the International Ocean Noise Coalition will be on island to discuss the Navy’s use of sonar in November when the humpback whales return.
• Water Districts — A presentation about islandwide water districts by Juan Wilson.
