Waimea hosts the Hurricanes
Waimea High School will be hosting a basketball clinic on Saturday, Sept. 1 at the school from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Conducting the clinic is the new head coach of the Hawaii Hurricanes, a semi-pro basketball team, Alika Smith and his assistant coach Darryl Masui and a couple of player(s) to be determined.
This clinic is open to boys and girls aged 10 years old to high school-aged. Registration will start at 8 a.m. that day. All participants under the age of 16 years old must be registered by a parent or legal guardian.
There will be a break for lunch from 12 to 1 p.m. Athletes should bring their own water and lunch. The cost is $20 per participant.

Law, Yamamoto hit holes-in-one
Thirteen must have been the lucky number last Friday as two golfers hit holes-in-one on the 13th hole at the Puakea Golf Course in Lihu‘e.
Curtis E. Law of Kapa‘a used a 5-iron to go 171 yards for the drop. Darren Schneck witnessed the shot.
Ann Yamamoto, also of Kapa‘a, was the other golfer to shoot a hole-in-one that day. Yamamoto used a Ping 7-iron and went 118 yards. Ken Yamamoto, John Cox and Tad Miura Sr. witnessed the shot.
Final KAGRA rodeo Sunday
The public is invited to the final Kaua‘i All Girls Rodeo Association event Sunday at the CJM Country Stables in Po‘ipu.
Admission is free to the rodeo that starts with the Grand Entry at 10 a.m.
Linda Antipala, the KAGRA secretary, said the winners on Sunday could determine who receives the prize trophy saddle, first place buckles and the title of All-Around Cowgirl.
“The points are close in many events and the competition will be intense,” Antipala said in an e-mail.
CJM Country Stables features open-air bleacher seating, a lunch wagon and logo T-shirt sales for the final rodeo of the year for the cowgirls.

Rotary Club of Kalepa Sunrise hosts golf tournament
The Rotary Club of Kalepa Sunrise hosts its 2nd Annual Golf Tournament fundraiser for college scholarships and community service projects at 8 a.m. Sunday at Kaua‘i Lagoons.
The format will be a three-person scramble. There is a $100 entry fee, which includes green fees, two mulligan, closest to the pin contests, long drive contests, door prizes and awards luncheon at Gaylord’s at Kilohana.
The Rotary Club of Kalepa Sunrise has donated books to King Kaumuali‘i Elementary School Library in honor of its weekly speakers, presents an annual Teacher of the Year award to a teacher from King Kaumuali‘i Elementary school, donates dictionaries to third-grade students, partners with other organizations such as The Salvation Army and Habitat for Humanity on projects in our community.
The club is currently hosting an exchange student from Chile who is attending Kaua’i High School.
International projects have also been accomplished including a clean water project in Thailand, participation in a transportation project in India a rice project in Thailand and a wheelchair project in Asia.
This year the club is hoping to raise enough funds to provide at least three scholarships to deserving high school seniors pursuing higher education.
