A 50-year-old Kapahi woman fell to her death from a cliff behind her home on Kahuna Road Monday night or early yesterday morning.
The body of Linda Lemke was recovered yesterday by Kaua‘i Police Department officials in Kawaihau after her husband had reported her missing the night before.
According to police, the woman disappeared near her residence on Kahuna Road and was reported missing shortly after 7 p.m. Monday. Patrol officers responded and conducted an initial search in Kapahi in areas frequented by Lemke.
Detectives were called to the scene at around 10:30 p.m. to assist with the search.
At daybreak yesterday, the victim’s husband set out to find her in an area that was not accessible at night and located her body at the bottom of a 100-foot cliff behind her home.
Rescue specialists from the Lihu‘e fire station and detectives arrived at the scene shortly after the victim was found. The victim was lifted out of the area and taken to Wilcox Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Kaua‘i Fire Department assisted police in the search.
Police are continuing their investigation of the incident. No foul play is suspected.
An autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
