Houston gets third WAC honor of the season

University of Hawai‘i left-side hitter Jamie Houston was named the Western Athletic Conference volleyball Player of the Week yesterday in Denver.
According to a press release from Hawai‘i, this is her sixth career WAC Player of the Week honor, and her third of the 2007 season.
The junior from Huntsville, Ala., led the Rainbow Wahine to its eighth consecutive WAC Tournament title when Hawai‘i defeated New Mexico State in the final in five games.
Against the Aggies, Houston had 22 kills and 10 digs as the Rainbow Wahine rebounded from losing Game 1.
In the semifinal against Nevada, Houston led Hawai‘i with 27 kills and seven digs while hitting .404.
Houston recorded a double-double with 14 kills and 18 digs in Hawai‘i’s quarterfinal win against Boise State.
For the 2007 season, the junior averages 5.38 kills per game and 2.65 digs per game while hitting .249.
Hawai‘i rounds out its regular season this week with two home matches against Loyola Marymount starting at 7 tonight and tomorrow night.
