Thanksgiving weekend offers Kaua‘i surfers a dual opportunity to work off some of the grinds as Pine Trees in Hanalei opens a dual surf event.
Nov. 24 is the date for the second Hawai‘i Surf Federation Kaua‘i event of the season where valuable points go up for grabs. Surfers will be competing to determine who will represent Kaua‘i in the Ala Moana State Championships in June.
According to a press release, that event will be followed by the first-ever Koastal Kaos Amateur Surf Series hosted by No Fear.
Liam McNamara, the coordinator for the No Fear Hawaiian waveriding series, said Kaua‘i surfers will get to compete for fun, prestige, an invitation to represent Hawai‘i during the National finals on the Mainland as well as winning more than $5,000 in cash and prizes which will be awarded on the beach that day, the release states.
The No Fear competition is its first-ever Hawai‘i series of events that will take place on the different Hawaiian Islands.
McNamara is no stranger to the world of surfing and its competition and feels privileged to be a part of this event.
“Putting on three events is like heading up a traveling road show for our Hawai‘i kids,” McNamara said in the release. “They will enjoy the day in its entirety with food, fun and spirited competition.”
Divisions in the Koastal Kaos include Menehune 12 and Under, Boys 13-14, Juniors 15-17, Men’s Open Division and a Women’s Open Division.
The Men’s Open features $1,000 in cash among the top four finalists, the release states.
Other sponsors who are supporting this event with merchandise and additional prizes include Future Fins, Sambazon, Hangair, Spy, Pro-Life, SB surfboards, GFH surfboards, BLISS, Bubblegum surf wax, Toyota, Osiris and Ogio.
Entry forms must include parental signatures as well as checks for the Kaua‘i event. Deadline for submitting the forms is Nov. 21 with cost for one division being $35. The cost is $20 for each additional division a surfer wishes to compete in.
Entry forms are available online by visiting the No Fear Web site at www.nofear.com. Click onto the “surf” link and highlight the Koastal Kaos banner.
