The Garden Island newspaper and the Zonta Club of Kaua‘i are teaming up this year and asking the community to help make the holidays happier for less-fortunate residents through the Zonta/The Garden Island Christmas Fund.
For an entire month, The Garden Island has shared stories of families who could use a little holiday cheer along with an appeal for monetary donations of any size. The names have been changed to protect their privacy.
Funds raised will be distributed to needy families by Zonta Club members, who purchase gift certificates at appropriate businesses to help make these simple wishes come true.
Because of logistical limitations, only monetary donations can be accepted.
Gift certificates and used or new items, while appreciated, should not be submitted.
Healani’s wish for
family this Christmas
Healani has one wish for Christmas: To spend the holiday with family and friends.
Healani has been separated from her family for a few years now and has not seen friends or relatives in years. She is disabled and having a difficult time and could really use some support.
Her monthly income is miniscule and prevents her from buying any extras over the necessities.
Healani used to work and is looking into volunteering in her community when she gets better. She could use some personal items this holiday season.
Paul needs diapers
and toys
Paul is a 19-month-old boy with a biological defect that will affect him for the rest of his life.
He receives therapy services and is making progress over his detriments. Yet as he continues to grow, there is a high probability of developmental delays in all areas of learning.
His single parent mother has been forced to quit her job so she can provide him with the full care he needs.
She would appreciate any financial help to purchase diapers and toys for Paul this Christmas.
Food, clothing needed for family of five
Leinaala, 22, is a single mother of four children. Moana, 4, Mokihana, 2, Moani, 1 and Moki, 5 months, are the shining stars that keep Leinaala striving to survive and care for her family. Leinaala is taking time off work in order to study and get her high school diploma. She hopes to be a nurse one day, but until then, she struggles financially to take care of her four children.
Food, clothing or any financial assistance would be helpful for Leinaala’s family this holiday season.
