The University of Hawai‘i women’s basketball opened the Island Imaging Paradise Classic on a tough 69-60 loss to Western Carolina at the Stan Sheriff Center last night.
Six lead changes was the testament to the back-and-forth battle between the Rainbow Wahine and the Lady Catamounts.
With the loss, Hawai‘i drops to 3-4 on the season while Western Carolina improves to 6-2. Hawai‘i will face Tennessee Tech starting at 1 p.m. this afternoon as the Island Imaging Paradise Classic enters its second day.
Tanya Smith led the way for Hawai‘i, recording her sixth double-double of the year with 18 points and 15 rebounds, states a press release from Hawai‘i’s athletic department.
Keisha Kanekoa finished with 13 points and three assists and Saundra Cariaga added 11 points, five rebounds and four assists.
The Rainbow Wahine shot 35.3 percent from the field, but their defense kept Western Carolina to just 36.7 percent from the field.
