Tyler Lewis netted seven goals to lead the Sharks to an 11-6 win over the Bruins, and Kawai Peahu posted five goals to lead the Green Team to a 10-3 showing as the Kaua‘i Inline Hockey Association opened its season, Sunday.
Inclement weather at the Kapa‘a inline skating facility forced the cancellation of the original opening day last Friday.
Following Tyler’s lead, Eli Leech-Kritchman and Makani Crowder each pocketed a pair of goals in the Sharks’ victory in the Squirt division.
Thor Haughland led the Bruins’ effort with three goals followed by Shannon Sitzler and Chanel Tremblay netting two and one goal, respectively.
Following Peahu’s lead in the Bantam division, Ben Steuri netted two goals and Zack Lewis rounded out the leaders with a goal and an assist in the victory.
Kalia Yee, Cascade Mayer, Stephanie Steuri and Sierra Mayer rounded out the win with a goal each.
The Green Team goalkeeper, Grant Basquez was 26-for-29 in saves.
Mathis Davis paced the Devils’ scoring effort with a pair of goals with Austin Taylor netting one and Cydney Sitzler finishing with an assist. Daniel Alonzo, goalkeeper for the Devils, was 39-for-49 in saves.
The next KIHA games are scheduled for tomorrow and Sunday afternoon at the Kapa‘a inline hockey facility that has been upgraded with new equipment to provide players with a better playing arena.
There is no admission fee to view the competition.
